Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka William and Kate) visited Klaxon Towers today.

Will and Kate

It’s not everyday the Royal Family turns up at your office building, but they did today. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Only Connect, a charity in the same building as Klaxon that supports the rehabilitation of ex-offenders into the community and into employment.

They popped in to see how the charity is using drama to engage with young offenders and presumably also to give them a pat of the back for all their hard work. You can see my woeful picture of the Royal couple taken from our office window to the left.

Unfortunately they weren’t available to discuss b2b marketing or the importance of utility based marketing on this trip, but hopefully next time…

Much better pictures are available from Only Connect here.

It’s all go at Klaxon Towers.

Flexible Working with Marketing Agency Klaxon

Last week I was interviewed about our marketing agency on BBC Radio 4 as part of National Work Life Week.

flexible working at marketing agency

The interview was all about flexible working and of course achieving a good work life balance. Considering Klaxon is a marketing agency and therefore not in an industry known for its 9-5 culture, you might be wondering why.

Well we’re a little different.

All of our team works remotely and flexibly, choosing hours to suit them. They are focused on delivering outputs, rather than time spent in an office.

This is a direct result of Clare and I wanting a better balance between work life and family life. When we started out as Klaxon Ltd we wanted the ability to work around the needs of our young families. So apparently do the new members of our team, joining us for exactly that reason.

How do we make this possible? The answer is two fold:

  1. Business model
  2. Technology

We have setup our business to work in this way. The way we operate on a day-to-day basis, manage our clients and our team is all based around the core principle that we do not need to be in an office. In fact we could be anywhere.

Of course we use a range of different technologies to enable this model. From conference calls to cloud storage, CRM, social media and instant messaging, everything is managed via the web.  The technology we use is the engine of our remote agency model.

You can listen to the interview on the BBC’s iPlayer by clicking here. Note this will only be available on the iPlayer until September 2014.

We also think this article from one of our latest recruitsIain Halpin – spells out nicely how we feel. Work and life are not too separate identities these days; instead we all operate with a work-life continuum, balancing our personal and professional lives in the best way for each of us.

Get in touch if this way of working suits you. We are always looking to add to our network of skilled and professional b2b marketers and sometimes to expand our team of employees too.

Iain Halpin joins Klaxon as Consulting Director

Iain HalpinKlaxon is pleased to announce that Iain Halpin has joined its network of B2B marketing specialists as Consulting Director. Iain’s strengths in consultancy, strategy and content generation, gained through twenty years’ experience of the technology and energy sectors, complement Klaxon’s existing focus on lead generation and event marketing.

Iain is a corporate communicator and storyteller who has worked with a broad portfolio of blue-chip clients – including Carl Zeiss, IBM, Orange, P&G, Philips, Shell and Siemens – as well as a range of innovative start-ups. He is able to advise clients – at the most senior levels – on all aspects of corporate communications. Iain specialises in enabling clients to make complex information accessible to target audiences, applying a proprietary messaging methodology and an ex-journalists’ editorial judgement to create truly compelling content that fuels on- and off-line marketing campaigns.

Andy Bargery, Director of Klaxon said, “We are experiencing strong growth which should accelerate as the economy gradually moves out of recession: now is the right time to bring someone with Iain’s skill-set into the team. His experience will allow us to get even deeper under the skins of our clients and to more fully understand their business drivers and needs, helping to fuel the next stage in the company’s development.”

Klaxon specialises in providing B2B clients within the technology and construction sectors with results-oriented marketing campaigns – blending content marketing, events, design and digital. It has been working with clients such as Xerox, Vodafone, IBM, Oracle and Philips, since 2006.

Iain Halpin said, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Andy and many of the Klaxon team over the past several years and I believe their business model – and their focus on measurable marketing outcomes – is absolutely spot on: rather than offering ‘solutions’ that merely reflect an agency’s own capabilities, Klaxon can objectively assess a client’s real needs and deploy a team that is custom-built to address their challenges. This is a really exciting move and I’m delighted to be involved in what promises to be a very interesting journey – both for Klaxon and myself.

Klaxon & Nimble Partner to Make Social CRM a Reality for UK Small Business

Klaxon has partnered with leading social CRM service provider Nimble to make it easier for UK small businesses to manage all of their contacts across social media, email and their address book in one, easy to use, affordable software as a service solution.

[London, UK], (7th December, 2012) – Klaxon, a leading b2b marketing solution provider, has announced their partnership with Nimble. Nimble is a social business platform that combines relationship management and social engagement into an affordable web-based solution.  It integrates LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Google, email contacts and conversations into one seamless, intuitive environment, empowering small businesses in today’s socially connected world to attract and retain the right customers.

Created by Jon Ferrara, the founder of GoldMine, a pioneering SFA/CRM product, Nimble is the only solution on the market that integrates the “4 Cs” — contacts, calendar, communications and collaboration — to enable professionals to effectively manage the way they see, hear and connect with their company’s most important asset: their business contacts.

“The problem today is our contacts and our communications are in too many places,” said Jon Ferrara, CEO of Nimble. “Between IM, text messaging, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Skype and email, we can’t keep track of it all. Trying to manage all of this in eight different tabs on your browser isn’t the solution. We created Nimble to solve our own needs and we’re bringing it to the world to help small businesses solve theirs.”

Andy Bargery, Director of Klaxon states, “We started using Nimble to manage our own contacts and reduce the complexity of managing our social media channels. We wanted a holistic view of our prospective customers to help with business development too. It didn’t take long to recognize Nimble provides a solution that would benefit our small business clients. We are therefore excited to announce this new solution partnership with Nimble.”

Nimble is the next evolution in relationship management – a social relationship manager that makes it fun and easy to nurture personal and business relationships.

Studio Launches in Style

Studio Launch Party

Last week saw the momentus launch of – the membership website we have been working on since February.

The idea behind the site is provide a platform for architects practices to engage with and employ architectural students, without the need for practices to pay expensive advertising charges or recruitment agency fees. It’s a radical idea which should hopefully overhaul the way architects are recruited – a much needed change for the industry.

Architects, join up now, it’s free after all.

It’s been a great project for us so far and we’re looking forward to getting started on phases 2, 3, 4….. Good to see the initiative achieving such high profile backing too – Angela Brady, President of the Royal Institute of British Architects, has supported the clients from day one and was there to deliver a speech at the kick-off too.

You can see below a handful of photos from the night. The eagle eyed among you will spot yours truly delivering a short speech and also posing with the graphic design and dev team too. A great night and a great project to be involved in.
