What Event Promotion Tactics Do You Use?

If you are tasked with organising an event, there are a host of tactics you can use for audience generation. One of the challenges you will face however is raising your voice above the din of other marketing communications around events.

I’m sure like me you receive a dozen event promotion emails a month for your industry or expertise and it’s easy to lose count – particularly if you are interested in social media.

One way perhaps of raising your voice and differentiating your event is to create a platform that engages your audience, rather than broadcasting to it. You might even use your audience as a crowd sourced conference production team, ensuring the agenda items match what the market really wants and to source good speakers.

With those points in mind I wanted to share a list of possible tactics you could use for both broadcasting and engaging. In practice you will want to do both as an integrated campaign is likely to generate a better response.

Of course it goes without saying that before you plan your communications tactics, you should already have thought through your overall objectives, budgets audience segmentation etc etc.

Broadcast tactics:

  • Email marketing
  • Print ads
  • Direct mail
  • Banner ads
  • Telemarketing
  • Print brochure
  • Radio advertising
  • Twitter stream
  • Outdoor ads
  • Media partnership
  • Flyers
  • Public relations

Engagement tactics:

  • Telemarketing
  • Focus groups
  • Newsletter
  • Linkedin group
  • Facebook group
  • Twitter stream
  • Interviews with influencers / speakers
  • YouTube / AudioBoo / Blog
  • Forums

I would genuinely love to hear your experiences in promoting events, so please, add your thoughts and ideas in the comments below…
